We caught up with Washington Redskins legend Joe Theismann at the USO Warrior and Family Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, recently and he had some motivating words for our men and women in uniform.
“People so often look at us in the world of athletics and they call us heroes,” Theismann said. “In truth, all we are is people God has given a certain gift to – whether it’s the ability to run, whether it’s the ability to throw, or hit, or jump or do anything–shoot a basketball–it doesn’t matter. But every one of you out there has chosen to defend the freedoms that we have and love so much. Believe me, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do–and I say this from the bottom of my heart–thank you, because every one of you in my mind is a hero.”
You can send a message of support and thanks directly to service members via the USO’s Campaign to Connect. Your messages will appear on screens at USO locations around the world.
You can help our heroes with the little things that will mean so much this year like a phone call home, comfort foods or a place to relax.
